Before receiving telehealth care, your clinical provider will present the applicable telehealth consent and treatment-specific information in the secure intake or consultation process. Reading this page alone does not record consent or authorize treatment.
How telehealth works
Telehealth uses electronic communications to connect you with a licensed healthcare provider. Depending on the service and legal requirements, care may involve a questionnaire, messaging, telephone or video consultation. The clinician determines whether telehealth and a proposed treatment are appropriate.
Benefits and limitations
Telehealth can improve access and convenience. Limitations include incomplete clinical information, the absence of an in-person examination, technology failures, delays and privacy or security risks. A provider may require an in-person examination, testing, follow-up or referral. No prescription, treatment or outcome is guaranteed.
Your choice and responsibilities
Participation is voluntary. You may ask questions, discuss alternatives and withdraw consent, subject to the provider’s explanation of how withdrawal affects ongoing care. Give accurate information, disclose relevant history and medication, confirm your current location, and follow the provider’s instructions. Do not record a consultation without the required consent.
Privacy and medical records
Your clinical provider maintains clinical records and supplies its privacy practices. Review the notices and consent presented by that provider. Our Privacy Statement explains the website’s separate handling of information.
Treatment-specific consent
The clinician must provide the information relevant to the medication, procedure or service proposed, including material risks, benefits, alternatives and follow-up requirements. State-specific requirements may also apply. That information and your consent must be completed through the clinical provider’s process; the general website and partner application do not replace it.
Emergencies
Telehealth and this website are not emergency services. For an emergency in the United States, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
